San Elijo is a wonderful place to check out the birds and migrants passing though.
From Manchester Ave go to the Nature/Visitor Center. There is a short self-guided nature trail loop. It doesn't matter where you start (south or east) because it's a looping trail. Walk until you see the big Torrey Pine (can't miss it there will be an interpretive sign) on the east end. The box is hidden behind the tree, and will be covered by some needles. Please hide again one you've found it! Enjoy!
If you don't see the Torrey Pine you didn't walk the entire loop, so keep continuing east.
