This box is planted for the cherry blossom festival at Schabarum Regional Park, 17250 E. Colima Road, Rowland Heights. $6 fee to park on weekends. One mile hike to Box mostly uphill. Two part stamp, best with Pink, then black ink.

100 years ago, Japan gave the United States a gift of 3020 cherry blossom trees, as a symbol of friendship between our countries, and are planted in Washington DC, 20 at the White House. Japan actually made the gift of 2000 cherry trees two years earlier, but due to pests within the trees, President Taft gave the okay to them burned. In 1935 the first cherry blossom festival was celebrated in Washington DC. Get the whole history at http://www.nps.gov/cherry/cherry-blossom-history.htm

In 2007 doctors Ron and Jane Gu donated 120 cherry blossom trees to Schabarum Park as a memorial for their son. In celebration of the 100th anniversary, the Japanese Consulate has donated an additional 100 cherry trees, planted throughout the park. There is also a grove of Ume trees (also beautiful pink and white blossoms), a gift from Japanese corporations, planted at the south end of the main road.

Behind the grove of Ume trees, take the trail right over the bridge, from the equestrian center parking lot. Start along the "Wildcat Loop", but go left onto the Schabarum trail. Go through the gate and right, and continue uphill until it reches a peak and view of water tank. Go left uphill another 175 steps to an oak tree on your right. Box is at rear base of tree under rock and plant debris.
