The Wildflower Sanctuary was created in 1991 by volunteers of all ages. It provides the opportunity for people to learn about and enjoy plants native to Kane County.

Park in the North Parking lot behind the Batavia City Hall. From the parking lot begin walking on the paved path towards the Fox River. Here you will see a sign to start the Native Plant Habitat walk. Continue on the paved path over the foot bridge.

In a few steps there will be another larger sign describing the paths. Feel free to take a free brochure in the box that will illustrate some of the plants you will see along the path.

Continue on the paved path and read a little about the history of the Challenge Windmill Company. Keep going and you will see the Fox River Batavia dam. Stay on the path until the dam is to your right. Look ahead and there will be a wooden pier structure. In one of the shortest hollowed tree stumps is the treasure you are seeking.

PLEASE LOOK AROUND TO SEE THAT NO ONE IS WATCHING BEFORE RETRIEVING THE LETTERBOX. THERE CAN BE LOTS OF FOOT TRAFFIC IN THE AREA. PLEASE REPLACE WHAT HAD BEEN COVERING THE BOX AS WELL.
