Goose Crossing II

Level of difficulty: Easy

STATUS: This Box was missing and has been replaced. It is in a new location. Please get new clues at "Goose Crossing III" letterbox.

The location

Glenwood Lake Park, Mills County, Glenwood, IA

Glenwood IA is located just 30 minutes SE of Omaha. The park is on the SE part of town on
US Hwy 275, just west of the Glenwood Community Recreation Complex.

When you enter the park, turn right and park along side of the gravel road near the large rock and flagpole. This will be your starting point.

Background

The Lake at Glenwood Park has been a part of Glenwood, IA since its inception as a mill pond in 1848. It has changed in use and size several times since then. Some of these uses include boating and a bath house in 1909, swimming in 1920, and "Jalopy" races in the dry lake bed in 1938. In 1979/81 an outdoor amphitheater seating 750 was constructed at the park near the lake. A walking path was added around the lake in 1998/2000 and a fountain installed in the lake to everyone's delight.

The Mills County Historical Museum is also on the park grounds.

The lake is home to many geese, ducks and swans, so bring along some bread to feed them for fun when you visit.

The Clues

*Start at the big rock and head down the path West, to begin your quest keeping the lake on your left.

*Follow the path around, watching for geese and ducks on the ground.

*You will come to a bench where a new path of white, is the way to go now, exit stage right.

*Go by the circle that "signifies the cosmos", heading North on the path now towards a tree with seats near a lamppost.

*Now spy with your eye something yellow and green. You're on the right track, no need to turn back.

*From the front of this location, look to the left. The direction would be oppisite of West.

*If you see an old porch with a great big bell, you're doing quite well.

*Where red meets tan on the far left hand, if you please, get down on your knees.

*Put your left ear to the ground and see what you have found.
