LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL POND
MANSFIELD,CT

RATED: EASY, LESS THAN 1 HOUR.

TIP: IT WOULD BE BEST TO DO THIS LETTERBOX SERIES IN THE SPRING, WHEN THE "WILD THINGS" ARE ABUNDANT. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY IN ONE PLACE BEFORE! IF YOU CAN'T WAIT - MAKE IT A POINT TO REVISIT THE AREA IN THE SPRING - IT'S WORTH IT IF YOU LIKE WILD FLOWERS!
OH - AND PLEASE DO NOT PICK ANY OF THESE WILD FLOWERS!!!!

DIRECTIONS: Take Route 195 to Clovermill Road. Take Right at sign for Bicentennial Pond / Mansfield Animal Shelter. **Seasonal** The gate to the parking lot may be closed - If so, park on the right side of the road -- AWAY FROM THE GATE!
***This is also the starting point for the " In Memory of Mack" Letterbox located at the Mansfield Animal Shelter.***

*Be careful-it may be difficult to be discreet in this area, especially when the park is in season.

CLUES: From the parking lot, walk past the first blue building, and on past the second blue building to the "Byron's Trail" Marker. Proceed through 2 posts and bear right onto the WHITE DOT Trail. Stop before the opening of a rock wall. Look to the right for a large "V" shaped tree. Behind this tree under a pile of rocks is BOX #1 "Lady SLipper". Go back to the trail and proceed through the opening in the wall continue staight ahead up a small incline, see WHITE DOT on tree, follow trail to the Right. Go past a tree with 3 WHITE DOTS, take L onto "Gifford Trail". Follow up the rocky trail, to a large fallen tree, Box #2 " Jack-in-the-Pulpit" is under rocks at the Left Base of the tree.

Go back down the trail, at the trail marker, take a left and follow down to toward the water. Cross over the wooden bridge, past "Byron's Trail" post and stop next to the first large tree on your right. (It should have a WHITE DOT on it.) Bear left off the trail into the woods, go to the large leaning tree, BOX #3 "Wake-Robin" (Purple Trillium)is inside the large cavern under a rock. Go back to the trail and go back over the bridge and bear left onto trail that follows the water's edge. It will bring you back to the starting point.

I hope you got to see some of the real "Wild Things".
