It's been a lifetime since I lived in sunny California. The beaches are wonderful to walk along and find shells. My 5 and 8 year olds love to go out there on vacation and beachcomb. There's always something interesting to discover.

Chatlain Park is located at 6300 Carter Avenue. One of Merriam's most active and beautiful parks, named for John Chatlain who served as a Merriam City Council member for 31 years.
Turkey Creek runs alongside the path. I think it should be called Turtle Creek considering the HUGE turtles we saw lazing in the sun.

This is a long walk with little shade. Stay hydrated.
1. Start along the West walk from the parking lot. Say "Hello" to the smiley tree.
2. Continue until you reach a clearing with a full view of the stream.
3. Whelk is located to the left. It's hidden between the cement wall and the landscaping boulder.
4. Get back on the path and you will see a blue metal fence. This is part of a storage facility. The first corner of the cinderblock base hides the Auger.
5. This has been moved. This is the new location: Take the path across 67th St. passing 4 lightposts on your left.
6. Scallop is on the stream side of the fence beneath some heavy rocks.
