Hike Distance?

This walk will take you around some of the commercial historic downtown of Albert Lea, Minnesota. It ends near Central Park, a nice grassy spot for a picnic if you'd like! (10-15 minute walk, entirely paved, easily travelled with wheelchair or stroller)

Begin at the Marion Ross performing arts center and walk South. Stop in to get a brochure about Albert Lea at the "unique" corner, if you like. Continue South, pausing to appreciate the intricate stone work on the former First National Bank building on your left. After passing the art center on your right (look up to see the sign) turn right at the next corner. Proceed one block then take a right on Washington Av S. As you approach Clark Street, the eagle will tell you which way to go. Go 1.5 blocks until you are between two Firsts. Your treasure is hidden where the chain link ends, at the top of an old stone wall. There are two crevices at your feet: You want the one closest to the Lutherans. (The letterbox is in a glass spice jar, so it is small; you will see the stamp symbol various places around town.)
