Copper Breaks State Park is located off Texas Highway 6, south of
Quanah, Texas. It is a small but beautiful park with day and
overnight camping sites and a very interesting exhibit building which
details early settlers and Indians in the area. There is a small
lake that has a swimming hole and a well-stocked fishing area. There
are hiking trails, mountain bike trails and, if you happened to
remember your horse, equestrian trails! Hopefully you will have time
to enjoy a little of this beautiful area when you are box hunting!

From the one-and-only stoplight on Hwy 287 in Quanah, Texas, turn
south on Texas Highway 6. Copper Breaks entrance will be on the West
side of the Hwy 13 miles south of Quanah. You must stop at the
Visitor's Center to pay a day fee of $2 per person, children under 12
are free. Be sure to pick up a map of the park.
The first campground area, Kiowa, contains a drive that takes you by
a play area, swimming hole, and the lake. At the end of the drive is
a parking area for the Juniper Ridge Nature Trail. Park here and
take the rustic stairs to the first trail marker, which points you to
the right. Between marker 2 & 3 is your prize. It can be found on
the right side of the trail beneath a pile of rocks. Look in a
depression, under an overhanging rock close to the trail. If you can
touch marker #3, you have gone too far. Please remember that this is
rattlesnake country, so poke the pile or rocks with a stick before
reaching in!

Thanks for visiting Copper Breaks Letterbox!
