Downs Road Parking: From the junction of Gaylord Mountain Road and Downs Road in Hamden, travel north on Downs Road about 0.4 mile to a small parking area at entrance to YMCA Camp Laurel. Don't block the gate.

The Blue Blazed Quinnipiac Trail follows Downs Road toward the YMCA camp and travels brook side along the edge of the camp. The Blue/Red blazed Sanford Alternate trail leaves the Quinnipiac trail just north of the camp and goes north through Naugatuck State Forest. It meets the Quinnipiac trail again in 1.4 miles in Nettleton's Ravine near Route 42 in Cheshire. The Sanford Alternate trail provides a perfect 3.5 mile loop trail for those hiking to Mount Sanford and boxing some of the Q- series, the 3 Good Reasons to Log series, the "Q"uiet on the Set 1 series, Too, and more. Distance to the box directly is a little over 1/2 mile from the parking lot.

Clue:
The Cromie Butterfly has landed in the Cromie Memorial Pine Grove. From the junction with the Quinnipiac trail near the Camp, walk down the Sanford Alternate trail .5 miles. Facing the sign for the grove, look right to a shin high boulder. Between boulder and a short stump. Re-cover with the cut wood, not the heavy rock please.
Check your CFPA walkbook for more information about this man and take a walk into the grove to see the lean too. In the field around it I saw over 20 butterflies playing in the sun light.
