Romero Pools LbNA # 61955
|Placed Date||May 27 2012|
|Location||Catalina State Park, Tucson, AZ|
NOTE: NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THIS TRAIL
This is a great moderate hike that starts out with a well defined and wide trail which becomes rocky with steady elevation gain until closer to the pools where there will be some up and down. Stay on this trail until you reach the pools. The pools are a great place to take a lunch or in the warmer months, go for a swim. After a good rain, you may enjoy flowing waterfalls and streams, as well as gorgeous mountain views and desert landscapes. As a cautionary warning, be careful when walking around the pools since the rocks are very slippery and wet. Great three season hike, doable in summer if you start from the trail-head at daybreak and carry enough water.
Fee: $6 for a day pass (per car) or Arizona State Park Pass
Distance Round Trip 5.5 miles (from the parking lot)
Elevation Gain 1,040 feet
Accumulated Gain 1,450 feet
Avg Time Round Trip 3.5 hours (I took closer to 4 including snack and box)
Take more water than you think you need and a snack to enjoy when you reach the pools.
Plan on taking a dip if you wish.
*****You’ve reached the final crest before descending to the pools. Take a brief rest in twin trunked shade. Backtrack about 14 steps then ascend to a leaning rock. East side, well baptized, single flat covering.*****
If you are unsure of your location:
85 large ball boulder
95 twin trees
125 cone hat on the mountain
Would hate to have you get all the way here and not find your treasure.
