Mattapoisett Library Letterbox
Mattapoisett’s Free Public Library is located at 7 Barstow Street , Mattapoisett, MA, 02739
Library contact information and hours of operation can be found at www.mattapoisettlibrary.org.

Mattapoisett’s Free Public Library is a beautiful building located in Mattapoisett’s village, within walking distance to the town’s beach and public wharf area—perfect for a walk or a picnic at the wharf’s gazebo if you have the time and the weather is cooperating. Standing on the sidewalk on Barstow Street facing the library’s front entrance, you can see, to the right hand side of the entrance, the memorial tree planted in memory of Judith Wallace, the library’s director from 2000-2008. To the left of the entrance, walk along the path and see the flagpole, donated to Mattapoisett in memory of Frank and Margaret Linhares by their grandchildren. Walk a little further into the left side yard and you will see a tablet on which is inscribed a roll of honor for citizens of Mattapoisett who served their country in the world war, a memorial statue to Mattapoisett’s soldiers and sailors, a plaque dedicated to WWI army nurse Florence Eastman and a cannon which never fails to fascinate the children who come to visit the library—enjoy a rest on one of the many benches here to enjoy the pretty gardens and let the children explore—it’s no wonder that these beautiful grounds serve as the site for the town’s annual Memorial Day ceremonies and parade. This side yard is adjacent to a second entrance to the library, one which leads both upstairs to the wonderfully renovated building’s collections and downstairs to the lovely children’s area of the library. Try to come and find this letterbox during the hours when the library is open, and you can treat yourself and your family to a visit inside the library—you won’t be disappointed with the vast array of resources and activities offered inside for family members of all ages.
To find the letterbox, continue through the left side yard, go past the side entrance with the two book return boxes, and walk behind the library. You will notice that there are three large trees growing along the fence to your left. Look behind a rock that is by the right-hand side of the third tree—here you will find your prize! Please remember to replace the letterbox under this rock when you are finished so that the next letterboxer can find it here! Thank you!
