This letterbox is box number five of a series of letterboxes placed by Elizabeth Bagdonas and Judy Loether and originally published in the Bolton Common, Bolton, Massachusetts' local newspaper, during the summer of 2000. These boxes are now maintained by a local group of letterboxers and the clues to this series are now being made available to the Internet community. This particular letterbox is a replacement to the original which went missing. Its stamp is a reproduction made from an image of the original stamp.

Part of the inspiration of the original series was to introduce locals to the wonderful resources of the conservation lands in their area. Since the original focus for these letterboxes was the local community several of the clues have "local references", we have made minor modifications to the original clues to correct for changes that have taken place in the local conditions but have attempted to preserve the challenge and creativity found in the original clues. We hope you take up this challenge and use the resources available to you on the Internet and elsewhere to solve the riddles and stamp in.

Clues:

A Tough Nut To Crack

Persons romp on the lawn at night,
The rising moon provides the light.
Dancing on this stage care-free,
Boy soldiers sleep across the sea.

The crickets and owls all sign along,
The ferns give witness to the throng.
The nutcracker's harvest is large and thorough,
and with it he hides warm in his burrow.

Dock 0 degrees.
Storage bulkhead 80 degrees.
House 130 degrees.

The letterbox is at the intersection of these three compass bearings.

You may find the information in the Bolton Trail Guide (http://www.boltonconservationtrust.org/Trails/Guide/TrailGuide.htm) helpful (and necessary if you are from out of town) in solving this puzzle.
