Follow driving directions for Brownsville Lighthouse letterbox. Instead of parking at the cemetery, drive almost a mile past it and turn left onto Cemetery Rd. Go 0.6 miles and park on the left at the second white gate with the granite marker for Sheddsville Cemetery, opposite the old vault. My Mom used to tell us that there was a carriage house near here to keep the horse drawn hearse in.
Enter through the white gate with the fancy sliding latch, be sure to close it going in and going out. Walk straight to the tree line in front of you. The letterbox is to your right but take a left, for a few rows to look at the neat head stone of the Fenn's (my brother calls it the Fenn Block). Follow the tree line as though you had come in and turned right, until you reach the most westerly corner with a lonely headstone for Russell Hicks who died Christmas morning 1836. With your back to the face of the headstone look westerly to a 5 truncked tree and in it's center is a bug you're sure to like.
Please cover the box with the stone and the stone with natural materials to have that realistic look about it. Thanks. Heading straight up the hill towards the road, look for the light colored headstone of Nathan John, the Apache son of Ann and Howard Spackman. The inscription's well worth reading.
