12 Months in a Year – June
This is a series of 12 boxes observing each month of the year. TrailMix and Yankeesfan will do our best to get a box planted each month in a timely fashion. This June 2012 box is the last box in this series, the first having been planted in July 2011. We have come full circle. Hope you enjoyed the series. See you on the trails!
The June box is located on Deep Gorge Rd, which is in Trumbull. It is planted near a stream where, on many a June afternoon, my Dad would take my children when they were young. The kids loved to throw a stick into the stream and quick run across the street to see it come out the other side. Dad has since passed away, and the kids are not little anymore. But the memories are good.
Directions:
If you are coming from the 25 connector, take exit 9, Daniels Farm Rd, turning right onto Daniels Farm Rd. Continue straight until the intersection with Moose Hill Rd. Bear left onto Moose Hill Rd. Deep Gorge will be on your left. If you are coming from Monroe or Shelton, at the intersection of Moose Hill and Mohegan, go past the purple house, heading in the direction of Trumbull. Deep Gorge is the first right past the purple house.
Clues:
Once on Deep Gorge, do not head up the hill, but park at the bottom. Locate the stonewalls on either side of the road, which is where the stream runs. You want the stone wall that is on the same side of the street as the telephone poles. As you stand facing the stream, turn to your left, walk until you see a rotted stump with a boulder in front of it that is on the edge of the woods. The June box is under the front of this boulder. Please rehide well after stamping in. (ink and logbook included) Hope your year was a good one.
