In 2010, the Island Heritage Trust purchased the Lily Pond Beach property, adjacent to Deer Run in Deer Isle Village. For years the private owners had allowed public access to this popular swimming hole. The purchase by IHT ensures that the beautiful spot will be available for generations to come.
Take Rt. 15 to Deer Isle. Shortly after passing the Dow Road on your right, you will see a sign for Deer Run, an elderly housing community, on your left. Turn into Deer Run and park on the right in Lily Pond visitor parking. Take the newly renovated pathway to the waterfront. As you step into the lawn and beach area, you will see a large stump ~ 3 feet high off to your right. From the stump, walk directly to the stone wall further to the right. You should be at a v-shaped poplar tree. Go to the back side of the stone wall and you should find your letterbox under some loose rocks. You should not have to disturb the wall's structure in anyway to get to the box. The pond is a popular spot in summer; please take care to keep the box secret.
This is a terrific spot for a picnic and swim. There is also a walking path that goes to different swimming spots around the pond.
