Winkel Pond Letterboxes

Planted 6/2012 by Bluebird in honor of our KLCT Ninth Annual Trails Day Hike.

Nice family hike of about 1 ¼ miles; takes about ½ hour. Dog and kid-friendly.

Park at the empty building at 255 Route 80, just east of the Routes 80/81 circle. Walk a short way east, and enter the trail by the large green traffic circle sign.

Head down the blue trail (thank you Boy Scout, Brendan Walsh!). At the fork, go right, to continue counterclockwise around the pond. Cross the boardwalk and dam section, eventually spotting a wall on your right. Just before the trail bends at the end of the wall, look for a “trapdoor” rock hiding box #1.

Continue until you see the sign for the spur trail to the church. Head UP, at the top continue along a driveway and by old rock supports which once were part of a hickory split rail fence. Soon you will be back into a heavily wooded area and will come to another stonewall. As soon as you pass through the wall, look right on the back side of it for another “trapdoor” which hides box #2. Just beyond this, the trail merges with church property. Head back the way you came, but at the bottom of the hill head right and continue counterclockwise around the pond to complete the loop!
