Background:
Before 1917 - when the Lake Washington Ship Canal opened - there was a wetland/marshland between Pritchard Island and the shore of Lake Washington. However, the opening of the canal caused the level of the lake to drop 9 feet, which also drained the slough next to Pritchard Beach. During the decades that followed, this area was used as a nursery. Then in 1996, Pritchard Beach neighbors banded together to restore the wetlands area to its original (or at least close to it) state.

Driving Directions:
Northbound on I-5, take the Martin Luther King, Jr. Way exit (#157). Continue on MLK Way until Henderson St. Take a right. Cross Renton Avenue and Rainier Avenue. You will come to a 3-way stop. Turn left onto Seward Park Avenue S. Follow Seward Park Ave to the first 4-way stop. Turn right onto Grattan St. Grattan will take you right into the Pritchard Beach parking lot.

Southbound on I-5, take exit #158. Turn left on Boeing Access Road, then left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Continue on MLK Way until Henderson St. Take a right. Cross Renton Avenue and Rainier Avenue. You will come to a 3-way stop. Turn left onto Seward Park Avenue S. Follow Seward Park Ave to the first 4-way stop. Instructions to find letter box:
Enter the park and walk down the main trail, past the amphitheater and pond.
Continue across the elevated wooden foot path.
When you come to the end of the wooden foot path, the trail makes a slight turn to the right.
Walk a few paces down the trail. Now look up and slightly to your right. You will see a large "W" formed by 3 large trees on the right side of the trail.
About 10 paces past the "W", look to your right and you will find a medium size tree right next to the path.
Crawl into the clearing behind the tree. Turn around and face the trail.
The box will be buried under leaves in the base of a small bush/tree right in front of you.
