NOTE: The box has been moved to a better location on the same property.

My father has a hobby that is not known to many people, and that hobby is steam boating. He, my mother and the steam boat, the Iron Butterfly, travel around the northeast to various meets to boat with other steam boaters. One of their stops is at Vergennes, VT; specifically at River’s Edge Campground on Otter Creek. For about a week near the end of July, 15 or so steam boats call River’s Edge home and can be seen steaming up to Vergennes or down to Lake Champlain.

The box is hidden at River’s Edge Campground (http://ottercreekcamping.com) at 47 Donovan Lane, Vergennes, VT. Park at the small parking area near the road and head up the driveway on foot. Follow the driveway as it turns from pavement to gravel all the way until it peters out, turning left when necessary. Looking left, you’ll see some grass between a corn field and a garden. Take the grass path, walking next to the woods. After a short walk and before the grass bends to the left, you’ll see an arrow pointing out of the woods. Take this path into the woods and you’ll see a large tree broken in three. Go stand next to the tree so the tree is on your left. In front of you and a little to the left is another large tree that has fallen down a long time ago. The prize is inside the top of the tree under a couple of pieces of bark that are acting as a trap door.

The steamboats will be meeting starting July 22, 2013 and will be around for a week or so. Stop by and check them out.
