This Letterbox excursion is located at Corporation Beach in Dennis, MA. From the North, take Route 6 to Exit 8. Take a left off the exit and follow until the stop sign. There will be a Getty Station in front of you. Take a right onto Route 6A. Follow into Dennis. Pass through Dennis Village, just past Cape Playhouse to Corporation Road. Take a left onto Corporation and follow to beach.

Some Things you should know:

• This is a PAID Beach - $20 on weekends, $15 on weekdays during the Summer. Free every other season. Or, come after 5:00pm and its free!

You may want to attempt this excursion early in the morning or after hours (preferable at low tide) because this beach gets VERY crowded in the summer.

We had SO MUCH FUN doing this and we hope you have even more fun finding it. PLEASE LEAVE EVERYTHING IN THE BOXES THAT YOU FIND!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!
Please put the clues back in the bottles! Also, please note that box #3 is no longer there. Don't worry, we're working on it!

Let’s begin!

The Legend of Dennis K. P’Cod

Once upon a time, there lived a fierce pirate named Dennis K. P’Cod. He decided he wanted to raid the King Corporation’s secret stash of gold and jewels. Legend had it that there were five possible keys that might open the treasure box. The only one that would work, however, was the treasured Golden Key. Though many pirates had attempted to find this key, none had succeeded. Dennis was determined to be the first.

(head from the lot towards the bathroom and snack bar - start here).

A rock with an arrow points right through
To a row of seven, all with a view
(if you are tired, sit down on a few)
One is discolored - have this at your back.
Now 55 paces will get you on track.
Look for a post, alone in the woods
for behind the post is your first box of goods!

Hint: Gotta go? Need a snack? Behind you will be the perfect shack!

IMPORTANT: LOOK IN THE BOTTLE FOR A HELPFUL CLUE!

Dennis had found the first key... but it was a dull black. However, he had also discovered an interesting clue to help him find the other keys. He decided to follow the clue, and hopped onto his ship, the S.S. Scargo.

“Did the clue in the bottle steer you right?
Hopefully you headed to a wooden “flight”
There are 22 in all that you must descend
then go right under at the end.
Under the eleventh, behind a rock in the sand
Will be your next box, hidden in the land.”

(Don’t forget to look in the bottle for your next clue - you never know, it may help you!)

Dennis searched his ship for a key... perhaps... for some unknown reason... it was stashed there? He scrounged around in his little room. He looked underneath his hammock and in the ship’s headquarters. Finally, on the top deck, he looked underneath a loose floorboard. A key! Dennis studied the key. Alas, it was black, most certainly not shimmering gold. Dennis sighed in disappointment. Would he ever find his Golden Key? He wouldn’t give up. Dennis had also found another clue along with the second key. He decided to follow it. He set sail.

“You passed the rocks but you are not done,
Head right by Lifeguard stand # 1
Follow the rock wall along the lot
you will soon find the correct spot.
Don’t go too far, the “private” land will commence
When in front of you is a metal chain fence.

Here you will come to the end of your walk
When you see the biggest and next biggest rock.
The biggest is textured a marbly grey,
the second largest is rust colored and sparkles on a sunny day.

Now stand with the ocean behind, and your feet towards land
Look in between these rocks for a “triangle of sand”.
Tucked in this angle, hidden quite well
There is where the third box will dwell.”

(Don’t forget to look in the bottle!) The clue that was in the box before it disappeared was: "Number three “guards” with her “life”, so pass her stand to a path on the right."

In the rushing waters of the Atlantic ocean,Dennis ––fearless, brave Dennis–– was afraid. A storm was brewing. Would he even make it out alive? Were the gold and riches worth it? Of course they are, he told himself sternly. You can do it, Dennis. You are a pirate. A reckless, fearless pirate. With that, he stood on the side of his ship on tiptoe, closed his eyes, and dove over the edge. Dennis felt the cool breeze of the water rush over him. He opened his eyes. A key sat, tangled in a mass of seaweed and kelp, below him. He swam deeper into the depths of the murky blackness and began to untangle the key from the kelp.
His breath was running out. How would he ever survive? Then, by some unknown miracle, he tugged one last time and the key let loose. Dennis rocketed back up to surface. He gasped for air as soon as he reached it. He peered at the key he held flat in his palm. Another black one. He threw it back into the dark waters, frustrated. (Perhaps it is still there today!)
At least he still had another clue.

“Did you pass number three? Up a path of sand you should tread
Here you will find your box, “buried” in its bed.
Don’t go too far, a few feet at most
A few inches down, behind a wooden post
wrapped in a rope, yellow in hue
you will find your box and your next clue.”

(Please rebury with care!)

Days passed. Soon, Dennis was ready to give up. Then one day... Land! Land, ho! Dennis was nearly beside himself with excitement. He studied the sandy beach in front of him. Could this be the famous place where the Golden Key lay in its case? Dennis neared the land. He anchored and waded out to shore. A cool breeze swept over him. The pirate’s life is for me, he thought. He reached land, his clue still buried in his pocket. He looked around. He spotted it! A box! Dennis ran over to it, hoping and praying that there was a golden key inside. If there isn’t, I’ll die, he thought. Dennis whipped open the box. A single black key sat inside of it. Tears welled in Dennis’s eyes. Pirates don’t cry, he told himself bitterly. But he wanted to cry.
Suddenly, a flash of gold caught Dennis’s eye. He caught a glimpse of... he couldn’t believe it! A glimpse of gold! Tucked into the corner of the box was the Golden Key! THE Golden Key!

Dennis smiled broadly and snatched the key and the clue out of the box. He read the clue carefully and began to follow it.

“Did you head up the path? Keep walking you’ll see
“Hillary’s” bench and many a tree.
Feels magical in here, wouldn’t you say?
There’s love on this tree, “M.L. hearts A.K”!

Look at the tree - a cool place for a box, right?
So search a little more...

...to find it’s nowhere in sight.
Now keep heading down the pathway
this neat little trail, go ahead now,
and you will prevail

You will come to a fork as you look to the left
Walk a step or two in, be nimble, be deft!
You will see 11 blocks - their color is grey.
You are so close - hip, hip hooray!
(Listen close - this isn’t too hard - DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER - this is someone’s yard).
With the grey block steps facing your right
Crawl under the bush, it will be tight.
There is a huge rock (is that a pipe sticking out?)
Look behind it
“We found it! We found it!”, you’ll shout!”

Dennis carefully inserted the key into the treasure box. This was it. It had to be. If it wasn’t, Dennis would die. He would die of disappointment. How could make it this far and then just fail? He wouldn’t. He couldn’t.

He opened the box.

Inside sat mounds of gleaming treasure. Jewels glittered. Coins shone. Priceless jewelry sat, just waiting to be touched and worn. A whole treasure trove sat in a single box in front of Dennis. This was it.

“Ha,” Dennis yelled into the mist. “That shows you, King Corporation! In fact, I’m going to name this beach after you and your failure! So THERE!” And that is how Corporation Beach came to be.
