**THIS BOX WAS WASHED AWAY IN THE JUNE 2013 FLOODS. HAPPILY, IT WAS RECOVERED FROM THE DEBRIS AND WILL BE REPLACED SOON -- LIKELY IN A NEW LOCATION**

The Waterfall Valley trail in Bowmont Park is a short, easy, young-kid-friendly hike starting from the Calgary neighbourhood of Silver Springs. The walk takes you down through a valley, alongside a burbling creek, to some small waterfalls, and then to the Bow River. It’s a nice little escape from the city --without actually having to drive out of the city. And, unlikely as it may seem, it is even possible to spot a whale on this journey.

**Please note: this letterbox may be difficult or impossible to access if the water level of the Bow River is very high.**

Directions:

Park at the small Bowmont Park parking area at Silver Springs Blvd. and 54th Avenue N.W. Follow the paved Bow River Pathway from the parking area (the path is marked with a sign). When you come to the “T” intersection of the path, turn right. Follow the path downhill until you see a group of 3 signs on your left. One of them marks Waterfall Valley. Leave the paved path and take this trail. Keep going straight on the trail. You will reach a boardwalk path. Keep going straight on this as well. Take the boardwalk path all the way down into the valley until you reach the waterfall.

Letterbox Clues:

From the waterfall, take the steps up to the viewpoint. From the viewpoint, take the steps that lead down to the river (Be careful! These steps are uneven and the area can be very slippery. Young kids will need help.) Cross over the creek (again, this can be very slippery, especially if water levels are high) and look towards downtown. Walk about 20 paces away from the creek until you reach a tree that is hanging over the rocky shore and touching the ground. Look at the base of the tree. There is a bush right near the base and a crevice partially hidden by tree roots and by the branches of the bush. (Hint: if you're having trouble finding the crevice, try looking higher -- it won't be near your feet). There is a pile of rocks in the crevice. The letterbox is underneath these rocks.

Please remember to be stealthy so that the letterbox remains a secret. This area can be quite populated at times. Please also remember to replace the rocks after returning the letterbox so that it is completely concealed.
