My name is Ryan. I’m 8 years old and this is my first letterbox and I hope people like this walk! This is a short walk down an old town road right where East Haddam and Salem town lines meet.

Where Route 11 meets Route 82 in Salem, CT, take a right off the exit. Go about a mile or so and take Woodbridge Rd on your right. After you pass the cows in the field (I say they are bulls, Papa says they are cows! We confirmed, Papa was right!) look for where Woodbridge Rd meets West Rd – there’s a big yellow arrow pointing right. You’ll see the town line sign for East Haddam. Park on the left off the street.

You’ll be going down the old West Rd on foot. It looks like a well-worn path, but it’s West Rd. It’s about a 10 minute walk. First, you’ll go past the large boulders blocking the road. Then, continue past the brown, rotten tree trunk laying on the side. Continue past the next 2 large boulders blocking the road.

Look for the huge double tree making a V on your left. Count from there 22 paces. You should now see to your right, an old stone foundation just off the path. From there, count 30 paces and you should see a neat tree on the left with a huge hole in its base. That looked like a good place to hide a letterbox – but it also looks like something is living there!

Keep going till you see a rock wall going off to the right. The path dips down into a slight valley and you should see a medium sized birch tree growing very close to the road on the right.

Continue one pace past the birch tree and turn to your right. Look toward the top of the rock wall (you might have to climb up a bit) – you should see an opening in the rock wall that is protected by some large flat rocks. Reach inside to find your treasure - you shouldn’t have to move any rocks!
