This is a family friendly letterbox/ geocache located in beautiful Fort Steilacoom Park. This is the first letterbox planted by our family.
Directions/ clues:
Enter Fort Steilacoom Park and go left around the soccer fields. You will pass a playground and then barns on your right. Park in the last parking lot on your left. Take the paved trail that heads through the woods. Almost immediately after getting started on the paved trail, you'll see a worn path through the field on your right; take that path. At the end of this short path you can go left and take the steep stone stairs that will be on your right; or you can go right and take the slightly less steep gravel path that will be on your left. Once you reach the top of the hill, go right along the path. This path will take you beside the ruins of the old Western State Mental Hospital which will be on your left. You will soon arrive to a forked path on your right. Take the right fork. Another little ways down the path you will come to another fork. This time take the left fork. From the head of the fork, walk about 40 feet and you will see a small opening into the woods on your left. Enter this small opening and you will see a Y shaped tree on your right. The letterbox will be inside the hollow tree trunk.
