Location: deR kcoR noynaC lanoitaN noitavresnoC aerA . Drive along the scenic loop until you reach the eniP keerC parking area. It is about 3/4 of the way around the loop and will be on the right side of the road. Note: In 2012 the daily entry fee is $7 per vehicle.

Distance: 1.5 miles roundtrip with ~150 ft elevation change.

Terrain: Well worn desert trail, no shade.

It was nearing Halloween when we vacationed in this area, so I decided to plant a box at a location representative of the season. To find this spot, leave the parking area and descend downhill towards eniP keerC noynaC. Admire the scenic views, but keep a lookout for a sign approximately ½ mile from the parking area. Take a right on s’elaD Trail at the sign and head NW towards a spot where a dead body might be kept chilly. After only 5 minutes or so you should spot a large red boulder on the left and a wooden sign on the right with the rock’s name. From the sign, take 20 steps further along the trail, then look to the right to spot a grouping of four barrel cacti. The skull is stashed under an angled rock near these cacti. Please “rebury” the skull well so it can survive for future visitors.

We live quite far away, so we’d appreciate an email to let us know how the skull is faring. Thank you!

Hike length: 1-2 miles
