We had such a nice walk here on a sunny October day that I decided it needed a little holiday haunting.

These smiles can be found at the Canton Land Trust Breezy Hill Farm Property. From Route 44 take Indian Hill Road 1.4 miles to the end. Turn right on Breezy Hill Road and the trail is on the left immediately after you turn. There is a trail map at www.cantonlandtrust.org You can think of this trail as a long crooked tail leading to a figure eight.

Follow the yellow blazes up the hill. After you cross the first stone wall the trail goes left and then right along the wall. Eventually the trail is blocked and you must leave it and enter the field. At the corner of the field follow the grassy road into the woods and then go straight toward the faint yellow blaze on the pine. Ignore the crossroad. The trail now winds in and out of the edge of the woods and fields until you reach another stone wall where you will turn left on the old road. Almost immediately, the trail forks. This is the beginning of the “8”. Bear right.

Watch for the orange/red trail coming in from the right and joining the yellow trail. Soon after that you will pass through a more open area. Look right, up the hill to see three large teeth and a white beacon of quartz beyond them. Make your way up there and stand behind the teeth, looking at the beacon. Now look right 90° to see a moss covered rock and a large fallen tree pointing away from you. Just after the big hole in the tree, at the Y, look under the tree for the Pumpkin. It will be happy to see you!

Now go back to the trail and continue on. Ignore the red trail to the left which is the trail to cut across to the other side of the “8”. Continue following the yellow/red. When the trails split continue on yellow down the hill. After the trail heads uphill watch for a big stump at the easy-to-miss left turn.

As you go up the hill you will go through a pine forest. Pass through a large cut tree with the upturned roots on your left. (I was just told that there is a large pine that has fallen on this cut-through tree.) About 40 steps beyond go left off the trail toward a pair of stumps with a log between. Once there look left for a pile of rocks next to a tree. On the far side, under an overhang is the mischievous Ghost.

Go back to the trail and continue on. You will pass the red trail coming in on the left. Stay on yellow back to the Y and then retrace your path back to your car.

Happy haunting.
