The Perfect Storm is a novel written by Sebastian Junger about the nor'easter that hit North America between October 28 and November 4, 1991. It features the crew of the fishing boat Andrea Gail, from Gloucester, Massachusetts, who were lost at sea during severe conditions while longline fishing for swordfish 575 miles out. It was made into a movie and released in 2000. This letterbox can be found in Ravenswood Park, near the setting of the book.
Directions:
From Gloucester go southwest on Rt 127 for about 2.5 miles to Ravenswood Park on the right.
Clues:
Walk on main trail to marker #1 and go right on Ledge Hill Trail to marker #3. Go right on Boulder Field Trail 75 steps to the corner of a stone wall on right. From the corner, follow the wall heading away from the trail for 25 steps to a place where the wall is higher and a long dead branch leans against the top. The letterbox is in a crevice between boulders mid-way down on left side (inside) of wall behind 2 rocks.
