NEWER UPDATE!!!! IT APPEARS THAT OM..... HAS GONE MISSING AGAIN, THIS TIME, WE THINK, IN ASSOCIATION WITH SOME STROM DAMAGE AND SUBEQUENT STORM DAMAGE. STILL, YOU SHOULD TREK ON OUT THERE, AS IT IS A LOVELY, LOVELY SPOT. WE HOPE TO REPLACE STAMP OND DAY SOON!! THIS UPDATE IS FROM SEPTEMBER, 2011. OM.....

UPDATE!!! We are happy to announce that on a windy, rainy day in March we made it out this to beautiful spot and replaced the Om.... box. Although the rocks we had covered it with are gone, and we could not find any in the vicinity, we think it's pretty safe if letterboxers remember it cover it well with tree moss and bark. We have to tell you that the day use fee has gone up to $10(!), but we think it's money well spent. You can, however, if it's not a busy day, park outside of the reserve and walk in.

Feeling stressed? Chanting the Om mantra will help clear your mind and energize your body. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga states that "Chanting a mantra puts you in touch with the vibrational patterns of the world and the universe's ocean of vibration, helping you ascend to a state of oneness with the universe." Wow! Hard to pass that up, right? What better place to try it out than on this beautiful bluff on California's central coast, located in the Punta de Los Lobos. This Reserve is about 6 miles south of the city of Monterey, and the $5 entrance fee to drive in will get you into any of the state parks in the area for the rest of the day. Although there is some climbing of steps involved, it's a very short walk. From the Whaler's Cove parking lot, head up the stone steps of the North Shore Trail. At the top of the steps, turn left at the fork and left again up the wooden steps. Count the steps if you wish, but it won't help you find the box. At the top of the wooden steps take the trail towards the ocean (right). Weave your way through the tree roots until you dead end, then look to your right and you'll see a wooden bench in front of a large boulder. Plop yourself down on the bench and attempt to regain your breath, because it will have been taken away by the beauty of the spot. Sitting on the righthand side of the bench, look over your right shoulder (it's all so RIGHT, somehow). The Om..... letterbox is tucked between two smaller boulders on the SE side of the large boulder behind the bench. Please leave the box well protected, as the weather can be severe in this area, and we'd really appreciate hearing how it's doing. Take your binoculars because if you're not feeling particularly spiritual today, it's a great place to munch on a peanut butter sandwich and scan the waters for sea otters and whales. Om.....
