Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 100 yards RT)
Recommended Ink: brown
Status: alive
From the outside the Painted Churches of Texas look like many American country churches, but cross the threshold and you'll encounter a profusion of color. Built by 19th century immigrants, these churches transport the visitor back to a different era, a different way of life. Inscriptions on the walls read not in English, but in the mother tongue of those who built them: German and Czech. There are over 15 of these churches, most in the Schulenburg area, and they can be visited on your own or by tour. This box honors Saint Mary Catholic Church in Praha and can be found at nearby Praha Catholic Cemetery.
Directions:
From Flatonia go east on Hwy 90 for about 2.7 miles then south on FM 1295 for about 0.7 miles to Saint Mary Catholic Church on the left in Praha. For the letterbox, go behind the church to Praha Catholic Cemetery.
Clues:
Walk through far left gate 40 steps to Kobza stone on right. Turn right and go past it on left side 10 steps to far right corner of Michna grave. Minibox is beneath a plant in the corner under a rock.
