To begin this fun adventure, you need to go to Maple Woods Natural Area, located 1.25 miles east of North Oak Trafficway on 76th Street in Gladstone. I found their address online: 2606 N Agnes Ave., Gladstone, MO 64156
There is a new parking lot and sign when you arrive. It is a beautiful hiking area through woods and near a creek.
Once you park your car, walk to the wooden bridge toward the left. Cross the bridge and take a left at the first fork in the trail. Continue up hill and cross second bridge. Continue on trail and you will pass a wooden bench. Cross the third bridge. Take a right at the second fork in the trail. When you see a big red rock, turn left to a trail with no mulch. Go on that trail downhill then go right onto another trail away from a metal bench. Go to the left at the fork on this trail. You will cross a small stream soon and there will be a house to your right. Walk a little bit on the trail and you will see a very BIG tree that is uprooted and laying on it's side. Ares' Sword is under a large rock under this tree's roots. You will need to bend down to look under the large rock here - it is well hidden under the rock. Please put the letter box back under the rock so no one can see it. Enjoy your hike back to the parking lot.
