Located off I-15 (exit Poway Rd), head east. Turn left on Sabre Springs Pkwy. Pass two lights then make U-turn at Morning Creek Dr South and carefully park on the side of the road.
The entrance to the trail is on your right as your car should now be facing south. As you enter the trail, you will see the sign welcoming you to the Chicarita Creek trail (see photo).
Follow the path and count up to 3 benches. Along the way, you will see the following signs: Trees of Chicarita Creek, Sage, Buckwheat and Home of the Kumeyaay. Keep walking the path. You are basically headed north right now. Enjoy your walk and listen to the frogs singing on your left. After the 3rd bench start looking for a side trail.
There is a little trail off to the left you need to follow. If you start walking uphill or reach the fourth bench, you've gone too far. The little trail heads northwest towards the stream (only about 50 feet or less). You will see a fallen tree, rotted out. Hop over and continue north approx. 20 steps. See the medium-sized boulder with moss on it? If we were playing the hot/cold game, I'd say you were burning up!!
Note: After finding "The Singing Cat in Chicarita Creek" you can keep going north on the trail if you want. It goes all the way through to the northside of Evening Creek Dr. You will even cross a small wooden bridge as you finish the hike. If you do that, go right when you come out on Evening Creek Dr and right at Sabre Springs Pkwy. You can follow the sidewalk back to your car. Personally, if I'm going out to hike a little, I'd just turn around and follow the trail back! It's not far.
