A decision. Do you want the experience? Or just the box? Either way a little research may be required for the 9.3 mile journey. Lat/Long on AQ is approximate. Can be done as a drive by
If you choose the experience, take water and food. There are no rest rooms I walked this in 2:55:37 at an 18:50 mile average pace.
The Dirty Rat 15k will be tough. Straight up about a mile into the start. The major crux of the Dirty Rat is the 1000 foot climb up Lincoln Grade on Horse Heaven Hills in the first 2.5 miles. Most people walk this area - not you though, your tough. The uphill portion provides a scenic view of Prosser and the Yakima River. You can also see Mount Adams and Rainier from the top and the large pull out at about 2.2 miles. A nice place to stop on the way down and appreciate the view. After the climb you will find gradual elevation changes for the remainder of the run through isolated scenic wheat country. Big sky country with room to think. There is a total of 1251 foot elevation gain and 1251 foot elevation decline. The run ends with a 1000 foot drop, down to the finish.
Beginning at the Prosser Chamber of Commerce, follow the route for the 2013 Sage Rat Dirty Rat run along Bennet and Kinney past the top of Lincoln grade to the 1/2 way turn around point.
Come back to the first power pole with a warning marker and a pile of several rocks. If you get back to a cross road or the ranch house you have gone too far. Here you find the Sage Rat Dirty Rat 2013 holed up.
Stamp in and continue your experience back up and down the grade.
You made it! Doesn't that feel good?
