"Mom, She's Bugging Me!" #1

Lincoln-Vista Neighborhood Park, 9800 Ridge St., Lanham

This is the first in a series of boxes to be planted at small parks/playgrounds in my general home territory. These boxes will be planted with the parent set in mind, although all are welcome, and I'll try to make the clues at least a little interesting so that the boxes are not completely "a walk in the park."

Lincoln-Vista Neighborhood Park is just about impossible to find. We saw it theoretically on a map one day, about a mile from where we live, and it took us a half hour to find it.

From the Beltway, take exit 20 East onto 450. Follow signage to STAY ON 450. You will pass a large strip mall on the right, and then some office-park type areas. Turn left (north) on Baltimore Lane (past Forbes and Galveston). Turn right on Grant, then left immediately on Hiland, and follow Hiland between the swamp to Ridge St. Turn left on Ridge, and the park will be there. I highly recommend printing a couple of Mapquest maps for the address listed above. If you are coming from points east, Baltimore Lane is about a mile west of 193 on 450.

Lincoln Vista Park has the usual neighborhood playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts, and a full-sized football field. If you trek through the woods for about 200 yards (no obvious trails), you will hit the north edge of the really cool marsh you drove through on the way in. This is along the Folly Branch, and the playground turns into a bog after a rainstorm, unfortunately.

And finally, The Clue:

To find the box, you will need to consult the famous work by Seymour Butz. Turn to the exact middle of the 3rd section.
