Collis P. Huntington State Park was donated to the citizens of Connecticut by the heirs of railroad magnate Collis Potter Huntington, for whom the park is named.

How to get to the Collis Letterbox:

Enter Huntington State Park via the Hopewelll Woods entrance where the parking lot meets a small bridge. Follow the wide trail until you reach a large sign; turn south here and continue to follow the trail the color of the sky. Cross one footbridge and continue on your quest. Just before crossing the second bridge, seek a small trail heading north. This trail runs parallel to a small creek. Continue on this trail until you reach a massive boulder that straddles the creek. Turn right, leave the trail and walk up the hill into the woods. You will find two large rocks near the top of the hill. One of these rocks is surrounded by mountain laurel and has a tree growing on top of it. What you seek is hidden by the rock. Happy hunting.
