Cahokia Mounds State Histoic Site in Collinsville, IL is a
UNESCO World Heritage Centre. It is a great place to visit.
There is much information online, but it's is not the same an actual visit.

On my annual visit to this location I found that after very heavy rains in the area, the trail to this box had been flooded at some point. I looked around the log where the box had been planted, but did not find it. It may have been washed out. I am marking it as unavailable at this time, until I can get back next June and search again.

This box celebrates a particular type of artifact which was found throughout the surrounding area. It is not planted at the site itself, but can be found a few miles away found in the same general area as a certain Family Legacy and you begin your hunt at the same place. You might be glad to know that this hike is quite a bit shorter.

After parking, walk east on the main road. Look for a large tree near the road with three picnic tables beyond it. Go through the gap in the trees to the right of the tables to take the trail downhill. "X" does not mark the spot for the box, so keep going. At "You Are Here" you are not there yet. Don't go left, just continue downhill. The bush honeysuckle may make it seem as though you are going through a tunnel. Go down some root steps with a small tree growing in the middle. When you reach the bottom of the hill, before the trail curves left, look to your right for a faint trail. Cross a small drainage and look in the end far left end of the fallen log on the left side of the trail. You will find the artifact you seek under the cover of chunks of bark on the side toward the drainage.

Please let me know if the box is missing or needs maintenance. I welcome your comments.
