Park in the lot for Thunderbird Falls in Chugach State Park. There is a $5 charge for parking. Hike up the trail 1 mile to the viewing deck of the falls and take some pictures. Start walking back and head down the trail toward the bottom of the falls (bring bug spray because the mosquitos are legendary). As you walk down the hill keep going past the erosion control sign behind the railing on the left and continue about 60 paces under the tree that grows over the path. Take a right at the end of the logs lining the right side of the path and you will see a large stump that holds what you seek.
