Black Walnut trees have many uses. The nuts are used in baking. Dye can be made from the nut husks, bark and the leaves. It is a hardwood that produces beautiful lumber.
Park your vehicle on Mounds Park Road, north of the Park entrance, where one of the Park trails crosses the road. Enter the Park on the Trail going west. Stroll through this beautiful Maple Forest, over a couple wooden bridges and some culverts. See the large rocks to the left, just begging for letterboxes.
When you come to the John Mimix Trail, go to the right. Shortly after the information post on Sugar Maples, spy a 3 trunked Black Walnut tree to the left. The box is hiding where the trunks join.
