This letterbox is part of the 2013 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2013 – September 2, 2013. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.

This letterbox is located near Seminary Ridge Musuem. It is 0.76 miles in distance and is rated "moderate" by Roads to Freedom standards.

- Start by locating the Lutheran Theological Seminary sign in the field near the intersection of Hay Street and Springs Avenue. In what year was the Seminary founded? ___________
- Walk up the sidewalk toward Seminary Ridge. As you approach the stop sign, look at the house on your right. Can you see the artillery shell embedded in the building under the porch awning?
- Carefully cross the street on the crosswalk and turn right, walking in the grass. After passing the house, notice the huge witness tree on your left. This tree is estimated to be over 300 years old and served as a “witness” to the Civil War!
- Upon reaching the library, carefully cross the street on the crosswalk. Turn left and continue along the sidewalk. You should pass another sign that states when the Seminary was founded.
- As you continue along the sidewalk, you should notice a statue on your right that is not related to the Civil War. In what year was this statue dedicate? ______
- Walk back to the sidewalk and continue past the Chapel. Across the street, you will see a building called a Refectory. Do you know that this is another name for a dining hall?
- Your journey takes you past a brick house with black shutters. After crossing the entrance to the parking area next to this house, you will see a brown gravel trail on your right. Proceed down this trail.
- This new trail meanders through the field. When you reach the wetland area on your right, you should notice a lone evergreen tree. The post you seek is ____ steps (last two numbers of the year in which the statue was dedicated – the last two numbers in the year the Seminary was founded) to the left of this tree.
- After making your rubbing, walk back to the trail, turn right and continue to follow it downhill.
- Near the roadway, the trail turns right and proceeds straight uphill through the trees. Take notice of another witness tree on your left near the top of the hill. A wayfinding marker about the Daughters of Charity will be nearby.
- Once you reach the roadway, carefully cross and turn left. Continue to follow the sidewalk to Springs Avenue and then left downhill to your vehicle.
