This letterbox is part of the 2013 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2013 – September 2, 2013. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.

This letterbox is located at Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve. It is 3.94 miles in distance and is rated "hard" by Roads to Freedom standards.

NOTE: To locate this post, you must first complete the clues listed on the Tillie Pierce page. The combined hike is long and strenuous. Please dress appropriately and bring water.

- From the Tillie Pierce post, continue a short distance on Swamp Creek Trail until you reach a kiosk.
- After taking a break to read the kiosk, look behind it and to the right. Follow the trail that begins here and leads up a small incline to a gravel road.
- Across the gravel road, you should see a metal vehicle gate and a blue sign. This is the start of Baker’s Knob Trail, which is marked by blue blazes. Be sure to take plenty of breaks and drink lots of water on this trail. This is a steep hill, but arriving at the highest trail point on the preserve is worth the climb!
- Head up the trail and follow as it curves to the right.
- This trail intersects itself multiple times. On your journey upward, you will come to three intersections. The rule of thumb is to always stay on the path that goes right. If you get mixed up, stay on the trail and continue uphill. You’ll reach the same place, but you might have a more difficult uphill climb.
- At the first intersection, the left path goes uphill steeply. Remember to stick to the right! On your return trip, you’ll come back down the steeper path.
- Soon, you should arrive at another intersection. Remember our rule of thumb!
- Keep following the blue blazes. When the trail curves back to the left and becomes less steep, you’re almost there!
- As you pass the third intersection and continue to the right, you should see a small clearing ahead.
- The post is located at the top of Baker’s Knob, elevation 1,343 feet. Congratulations on meeting the challenge! Take a break at the picnic area and enjoy the great outdoors.
- When you’re ready to return to the starting point, turn back the way you came. As you make your way downhill, our rule of thumb still applies: take the right path.
- At the bottom of the hill, cross back over the gravel road and return to the kiosk. Follow Swamp Creek Trail to the left to return to the Nature Trail. Continue on the Nature Trail back to the parking area.
