My early childhood was spent in what was then a small town, yet untouched by developers’ hands. Summer nights were dark and quiet, except for the sound of crickets and frogs. With jar in hand, I would run after the fireflies, lucky to catch one. After watching their delightful glow, I would set them free. Being out in the dark, however, I was always frightened of bats. I’m sure the stories my brothers told of bats swooshing down and attacking did not help the matter. As an adult, I still want to catch fireflies. But the bats chase me back into the house.
FUN FACT: only male fireflies can fly
BUG SPRAY IS A MUST FOR THIS TRAIL!!!!!
These boxes are located at the Webb Mountain Discovery Zone, which can be reached by either Route 110 or 111 to East Village Road to Webb Circle.
From parking lot, take Froggy Freeway to Turtle Turnpike to Pond Parkway. While on Pond Parkway, you will come to Bullfrog Boulevard on your left. As you turn and begin down Bullfrog Boulevard, notice a 5-sister tree in the woods to your right. Box 1 is at the base of this tree. Enjoy the “twang” of the bullfrog as you stamp in. Return to Pond Parkway, which intersects with Hayfield Way. Take a right onto Hayfield Way. After crossing a wooden bridge, notice 2 3-sister trees on your right. Box 2 is at base of 2nd 3-sister. Continue on loop to return to your car.
