Clues

NOTE: I using pacing to identify certain markers and clues along the way. One pace is equal to approximately 30 inches. In the clues below there is an opportunity to measure your the length of your own pace against my own.

To begin start at the Barre Town Recreation Center parking lot. Turn towards the road and look northeast. The isosceles triangle shaped mountain in the distance is Spruce Mountain in Plainfield. Now keep turning to your right and locate the bike path and begin walking. Continue along until you are standing between two fields with diamonds. Take a left at the fork in the path and pass through the pillars. At this point you can also compare the length of your own pace to mine. Standing at the no motor vehicles sign turn and face the yield sign. It takes me 7 paces to walk from one sign to the other. Keep in mind the number of paces it takes you to walk this distance as it may take more or less paces for you to reach certain clues. Now continue along until you reach a small clearing on the left near the soccer field/running track.

Stop at the clearing. Turn to your right and look northwest. On a clear day you can see Camels Hump off in the distance. Now turn back towards the clearing and locate the trail marked with an orange blaze at the edge of the treeline. Follow this trail through the woods for 238 adult paces until you reach the Beaver Trail on your left. On your way along the trail take time to observe the many trees of spruce, pine and birch that tower overhead and listen carefully for the birds. Along this trail you will also pass by a few pieces of exercise equipment along the way.

Once on the Beaver trail you will immediately step over four fallen trees. Follow this trail until it ends by a small stone bench near the bike path. Standing between the trail and the bench turn back towards the woods and immediately to the right of the trail you just left is another trail with a blue blaze that runs along a small stream. Follow this trail for 104 paces. At about 50 paces on the opposite side of the stream you will see a large granite boulder, 54 paces later you will see a large dead tree on your right. The Birch Bark Container box is hidden under the tree along the left side.
