Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 400 yards RT)
Status: stamp missing
Rhode Island has over 400 miles of shoreline and is thus nicknamed the Ocean State to promote tourism. A great place to view the ocean is at Purgatory Chasm, a narrow crack in the rocks that allows a good view straight down into the center of the chasm all the way to its opening into Sachuest Bay, and where this box is located.
Directions:
From Rt 138A go east on Purgatory Road for about 0.8 mi and turn right on far end of Tuckerman Ave, then park in the small lot for Purgatory Chasm on the left.
Clues:
Walk on trail to bridge on right with view of chasm. Instead of crossing bridge, continue straight 30 steps then go left across rocks 65 steps to small path into bushes. Continue on it 23 steps to a view of a beach below. Go right 10 steps to small evergreen tree at edge of cliff. Letterbox is at far end of a rock before the tree under a rock and leaves.
