Star Gazer LbNA # 65762
|Placed Date||Sep 7 2013|
|Location||Bisti highway overlook, Farmington, NM|
|Last Update||Sep 28 2013|
In Farmington, NM, find the south side of SJRMC and drive approximately one block west. Take road 371 (Bisti Highway—it begins at the intersection) and continue driving west.
You will pass a cemetery full of white crosses on the left side of the road and you will drive across a cattle guard.
Soon after crossing the cattle guard, Mile Marker 105 will be on the left. Drive up the winding road approximately 9/10 of a mile (not quite to the top), then turn right into a pull out, and park. If you reach mile marker 106, you have gone too far.
Walk west along the barb-wire fence across gravel and then across New Mexico’s trademark, sandstone. Shimmy down a 5-6 foot drop (you will see an accessible crevice). Turn to the right, and you will see small cave like indentions in the sandstone. “Star Gazer” is in the second cave under sandstone rocks.
Enjoy the Land of Enchantment’s view of the Sand Dune Recreation Area during the day, or come star gazing at night!
