The walk is a mile or less on flat ground. You can shorten it if you’d like by beginning on Nichols Ave. (see below).

Travel down Rt 16, which is Mt. Auburn St. in Watertown and turn onto Bigelow Ave (at the Deluxe Town Diner).

Welcome to “Little Armenia.” Park anywhere along this road if driving.

On your right, you’ll see a Greek Church and on your left Watertown Savings Bank and an Armenian Church.

As you walk down, you’ll pass another Armenian Church on your right, then you’ll pass Kay’s Market, the Great Green Grocer.

When you reach the intersection, this is Nichols Ave. On the right is the Armenian Cultural and Education Center and on your left is an Armenian newspaper. Turn left onto Nichols Ave.

You’ll see an intersection with a stop light. Cross over to the other side of Nichols Ave at the intersection and look for the gray concrete marker in front of a red brick area, which indicates the path for the Watertown Greenway.

Walk down this path and keep your eye out for small animals. We’ve seen many rabbits on the grass!

On your left, you’ll pass a building with graffiti on it. Keep going.

You’ll then see white buildings on your left, which is the back of the Watertown Mall.

Look ahead for another gray concrete marker for the Watertown Greenway. In front of it, you’ll see an odd piece of metal from a railroad. This path used to be a railroad track. The Watertown Mall site was once the location of the Hood Rubber Plant, which played a big role in the shaping of America. You can read more about it in Wicked Local.

Turn left at the marker and continue down the path. You’ll be walking along the mall’s parking lot.

Look ahead to locate a style of tree that whomped Harry Potter and his friends. If you don’t know what I mean, here’s a hint. Is it crying?

Walk to this tree. Turn back on the path and walk back about 25 paces.

Look for the edge of the fence along the path. It is hidden behind a tree. Look down at the end piece of the fence and find your letterbox.

Be sure to hide it back there well for the next person to discover.

On your way back, you should check out Kay’s for plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, local foods, and homemade Armenian specialties. Yum!
