Welcome to Welter Woods!

The Killingworth Land Conservation Trust recently completed its purchase of this lovely property. It adjoins our nature center and Parmelee Farm properties. Future trails will connect to those equally delightful spots!

The trail is very moderate (no climbs!), about 1-1 ½ miles roundtrip, and can be done in about an hour. Family and pet friendly. There is one logbook; bring ink.

To locate Welter Woods, head north on Roast Meat Hill Road (great name, right?!) one mile from Route 80. Look for the green oval sign on the left, and park in the large gravel parking area.

Enter the wide woods road at the back of the lot. It is now blazed in purple. You will cross a boardwalk over a wet spot, continue straight on the trail after that. The road eventually narrows to a more trail-like path. Look for a large, flat, ledge rock on the left – to the right will be a small rise. Look between the rock and stump for the first box.

As you continue, there will be a stream to your right. Enjoy the woodsy beauty. Pass a 4-sister tree right along the trail. The next box lies between two rocks, just beyond that 4-sister.

Soon the trail splits; one fork goes over a bridge crossing over to Parmelee Farm. The trail also continues to the left. At the fork with yellow, take the yellow spur trail to the left. Ahead, the trail ends at Jensen’s, a mobile home park. Just before the opening, look left to a large two-sister tree. Look behind it, under a “shell” for the final box. Head back the way you came.
