Roper Lake State Park is a great camping and recreation area located off US Rte. 191 about 6 miles south of Safford . An interesting area for camping or just a stop for a day of fishing, hiking, swimming and relaxing in the natural stone hot tub. There is a day pass fee. AZStateParks com for more info.and map.
After you enter, follow the road straight past the camp grounds, the hot tub and the Ranger residence road to the West Hill Day Use picnic area. In the island in the center of the parking area, opposite the rest stations and garbage can, with your back to the lake you will see a lonely tree about 5 feet from the curb with 2 rocks to the right. The box is under rocks and debris next to the tree. Guarded by a “sticker bush” so be careful. (spoken from experience).
