Kevin was an avid star gazer and Star Trek fan. We planted this box in a place that was an integral part of our youth and where gazing is amazing. Unfortunately, the park now closes at dusk, but a day time hike on a clear day affords you a beautiful view of the Connectict River Valley. The hike is about 1 hour round trip and is a gradual climb on a well kept trail.
Make your way to Case Mountain via the Spring Street Entrance. Enter the trail through the gate and enjoy the hike to the top. When you get near the top take the left fork up the rocky path to the summit. Standing at the top at approximately 310 degrees you can see Hartford. Turn around with Hartford at your back. There are many trails to choose from, but pick the rocky one directly across from your Hartford view. Spot the tree with the paint can lid nailed to it. The trail winds to the right, stop when you see the yellow blazed tree. Take a left into the woods where you will follow a rocky ledge for about 25 steps. There you will see the 3rd large overhanging rock with a tree right in front of it. In the northern corner of the rock, behind some rocks is Trekkie Kev.
