Blue Hills of the Hippogriffs ~ CLUES
Planted by: Marissa Moon and her dad, MoonPop, on 12/11/13
Active as of: 12/20/13

With this letterbox, I hope to forge a link between my Little Evergreen Bridge letterbox and the Magic Mission boxes; hippogriffs for our fantasy, and stunning nature high on a mountain for our dose of rapture! We planted this box in winter, and everything was snowy, frosty, and muted with colors of blues, grays, and greens. The sense of solitude and intimacy of nature was very soothing, while at the same time, the vastness was humbling.

Make your way to Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, specifically to the Anti-Aircraft Peak Trailhead. Directions: "From I-90: Take Exit 13 and drive south on Lakemont Blvd SE for 2.5 miles. Turn left onto SE Cougar Mountain Way. Follow the double yellow line (the road will first swing left and become 168th Pl SE and then right to become SE 60th St). Turn off 60th St uphill onto the dead end road, SE Cougar Mountain Dr. The road will change to gravel - at the end is the trailhead."*

Start at the trailhead between the fences of the hippogriffs' pasture.

Pass a hippogriff tethering post as you summit the hill.

Crest the hill to arrive in the hippogriffs' ancient grazing area. A million-dollar view awaits you ahead and to your left. Picture hippogriffs winging their way across the water, circling the hills. One day, long ago, perhaps this was so...

Approach the ruins of the hippogriff stables. Facing it with your back to the trail you just came up, circle around the right hand side.

At the far corner, bend down and peak under a beam to find the Blue Hills letterbox.

In the hope that you are as stunned by this place as I was,

Check out the Evergreen Peak letterbox, a companion to Blue Hills, for more high(ish) altitude fun, and the Magic Mission letterboxes (assorted) to meet more magical creatures!
