Once again we have made letterboxes with the stamps we used to make our Christmas cards. If you have done our Christmas card boxes before, note that we have hidden them in a different park this year. As usual, the boxes are temporary, available only from Christmas eve until Epiphany. If you try to find them in July, they will not be there! There are two boxes, but one log book, in the second box.

The two boxes that make up our Christmas card this year are hidden at Center Springs Park in Manchester. There are two places you can park to find the boxes; neither is a drive-up, but it’s not a long or difficult hike (though there are stairs to be navigated if you park at Lincoln Center, and if it snows they will not be cleared).

Option #1: Park at Lincoln Center on Main Street in Manchester. The sign will tell you it is an access point for Center Springs Park. Go down the stairs at the corner of the lot and follow the path to a t intersection. Go right, and follow the paved path around the top of the waterfall. Shortly after passing the waterfall you will see a huge two sister tree. Behind it is a pile of branches and a wide, low tree stump. Box #1 is under the tree stump. To find it go around almost to the back on the left side (as facing from the path). It is shoved waaaaaaay under the stump; please be sure to hide it well, but not so that no one else can get it back out! When you stamp this stamp in your logbook make sure to leave room at the top of it for the next stamp.

Return to the path and keep walking in the direction you were going. Eventually you will pass a trail entering at an angle from the right; don’t take this trail, it’s just a landmark. Walk a bit further, and you should be able to see the pond. When you reach a very skinny two sister tree close to the left side of the path, stop and look to your right. There are two thick trees on the edge of the woods (not exactly close together). The leftward of the two trees, the one signaling a right turn on a bicycle, has the box hidden at its base, once again waaaay inside the tree. Especially if there is snow on the ground when you go to find the box you will have to be sneaky, because the park is very popular with sledders, and you don’t want to be seen. You will be able to see the way the two stamps are supposed to intersect.

You can turn back and go back the way you came, or continue on the path, pass over the little bridge to your left, and follow the path back to the stairs.

Option #2: Park by the lodge in the park’s parking lot on Lodge Drive. Pass the green gate at the end of the lot, and make your way over the little bridge you will see to your right. Follow the trail until you see the waterfall, and then use the directions above.

If you search for the box on Christmas day you might run into the Domedreamers, as we will be walking there with family.

Have fun, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
