The Lil Things – Proud as a Peacock

HISTORY:

"Proud as a peacock" is a phrase that describes the plumage of the male peafowl (females are peahens). When a male is courting, he spreads his tail feathers, sometimes five feet in length, out in a fan pattern to attract a female. Thus, someone who is "proud as a peacock" is similarly "strutting his stuff."

Peafowl are two Asiatic and one African species of flying bird in the genus Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae, best known for the male's extravagant eye-spotted tail covered feathers, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen, and the offspring peachicks. The adult female peafowl is grey and/or brown. Peachicks can be between yellow and a tawny colour with darker brown patches or light tan and ivory.

Pop Icon Katy Perry even has a song titled “Peacock”.

DIRECTIONS:

Longbranch Park. Take Rancier Blvd. to Branch Street. Turn into the park and follow the street until you see a street on the left that contains the word of an item you will need once you find this letterbox. After you cross the little bridge you will turn left onto a similarly named street. Look for some prehistoric remains and park in that area.

TO THE BOX:

Park in the parking area and check out the really cool prehistoric find. Once you check that out turn around and look down the hill. You will see some picnic pavilions. Walk southwest, pass a small dead looking tree and continue on to the pavilion. Here you can enjoy a BBQ picnic while you strut your stuff around the park. Continue down the hill that slopes downward towards a treeline. Peacocks love to hide in the underbrush until they are ready to show us their glorious tail feathers. Follow the treeline, down to the corner. At the corner look into the brush and find a post that has the number 154 on it. Once you find it look down to your right side and in the trunk of the tree you will find a very proud peacock. Please return the box back to its original place and hide well.
