Brownie Troop #72518 Letterbox
-Start out at the Heath Hen Meadow Kiosk on the North side of Boxborough Rd, near the junction of Boxborough and Packard Roads. You can find a map of this location on the Stow Conservation Trust website here: http://www.stowconservationtrust.org/trails.php
-Follow the blue trail (marked on trees) to the boardwalk and cross over a stream. We saw some cairns (man-made piles of rocks) in the water.
-Continue on the blue trail through the gap in the stone wall and to a T junction. Turn left following the blue trail. You are headed towards the Flag Hill Pond and the stone wall will be on your left. Then the blue trail will curve and the pond will now be on your left.
-We found a small trail on the left that leads down to the pond and went to investigate. We saw evidence of beavers and heard and saw a Red Winged Black Bird. Once you enjoy the view go back to the blue trail turn left and continue on.
-The blue trail goes through another gap in a stone wall and turns right.
-When you see a blue and purple marker on the tree, take a left onto the purple trail. The trail passes into a wetland area.
-Just through the wetlands you will see a tree on the right with green and purple trail markers on it, just before another stone wall. If you see the green trail go off to the left, you have gone too far.
-To find our letterbox stand to the right of the tree with the green and purple markers on it. Count 26-30 steps towards the rock wall. Find a tree that has a crocked trunk that looks like a seat and a stump covered in moss in front of the wall. Look for our box in the stone wall between these 2.
-We hope you found it and enjoy the Brownie Elf stamp!
-Once you have found the box, please sign and stamp in our book, replace it where you found it and hide it well!
-You may return the way you came, but we decided to take a more scenic route past apple orchards and a stream. Follow the below instructions if you would like to do so as well!
-Return back out onto the purple trail. You will pass the green trail on your left and stay on the purple trail going through the gap in the rock wall.
-Continuing on the Purple trail. On your left you will see Shelburne Farm. When you see a blue and purple trail marker go right then turn slightly left onto blue trail with the single blue marker.
-A short way after taking the blue trail there is a path that leads up a steep hill to Shelburne Farms fence. There you get a nice view of the orchard and their windmills. After enjoying the view, return back down the hill and turn left continuing on the blue trail.
-At the junction with the pink trail turn left onto the pink trail. Follow pink trail around a corner towards the stream and follow the stream and pink trail until you reach the blue trail and turn left onto the blue trail.
-Follow the blue trail until you come to double blue trail markers on the tree take a left through the stone wall and follow the boardwalk back to the Kiosk where you started!

We hope you enjoyed this fun hike and found our letterbox. Please let us know if there was anything missing or damaged. We will be by to check out your stamps and notes to us!
