The Hogback Mountain letterbox was placed to share the most spectacular view Vermont has to offer; and to give a little hike in the woods. These two things are what I miss the most since I have moved. It may be a bit wet and muddy in the Spring.

Once you make it to Hogback Mountain, soak up the view. On a good day, you can see Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Take a spin in the gift shop and say hi to the nice ladies that work there. Then, you are ready to search for your letterbox.....

Walk out of the gift shop and go left, so the mountains and the guardrail are on your left. Skyline Restaurant is across the street on your right. Walk along the guardrail. There will be a red house on your left, then there will be a tan building on your right. Keep walking and there will be a little wooden sign/billboard in front of you. Read the sign and see the awesome trails of that area.

Next, turn around, with the wooden sign behind you. Look for the lone, old stump and walk toward that. Keep walking and look for the fallen shack. Walk toward the shack, go left, and that will get you on the trail.

Walk down the trail. There will be a sign on your left. Follow toward the 'Hogback Gift Shop'. There will be another sign on your left, and follow the 'main trail'. Keep on the trail and enjoy the amazing trail and the mountain ridge along your right. Look for a tree with lots of woodpecker holes. Beyond that look for the yellow dot on a tree (on your right side). Once you see that, look to your left for a white water PVC pipe. Keep walking and you will see, on your right, a white PVC pipe that looks like a spout. Walk to the spout and put your back to the pipe and the mountain range. Look at 2:00. There you will see the H in a circle on the rocks. Your letterbox is tucked under the H, marked by a stone and covered with leaves.

Recover and enjoy the walk back. Hope you enjoyed the view and short hike.
